Ocular Surface Disease

What is Ocular Surface Disease (OSD)?

OSD is also known as Dry Eye Disease. It is a common and often chronic problem that affects over 16.4 million people in the United States. When we blink, the eyelids squeeze oils from Meibomian glands and create tears that will spread across the front surface of the eyes. Because of age, environmental conditions, and other factors, Meibomian glands become blocked and damaged over time resulting in unhealthy tears. Additionally, our eyelids become less tight as we age and become less efficient at squeezing out those important oils. Often, signs are visible to your provider before you feel symptoms so it's importance to have your ocular surface evaluated annually to manage OSD early!

The most common symptoms of OSD:

  • a dry, gritty, sandy sensation in the eyes
  • redness
  • mucous discharge
  • fluctuation of vision
  • contact lens intolerance
  • excess tearing
  • eye fatigue
  • light sensitivity

OSD symptoms are often made worse by activities where patients tend not to blink frequently, such as reading, working on the computer, and watching television. Dry eye symptoms are also generally worse toward the end of the day.

Happy Valley Vision Source is proud to be innovators in the treatment and management of OSD!

Now offering TempSure

About TempSure Envi

TempSure Envi is a new radiofrequency treatment that warms and loosens any blockages of oil in the Meibomian glands to leave the eyes feeling hydrated and moist*. TempSure Envi also promotes collagen growth to tighten eyelid skin* for healthier blinks and more efficient oil release. The tightening of the skin also minimizes wrinkles and fine lines as an added bonus! It’s safe for all skin types and levels of sun exposure, so it fits perfectly into any ocular surface maintenance routine, any time of year! There’s no surgery, no needles and no downtime so you can immediately get back to what you were doing and feel great doing it!

How does TempSure Envi work?

TempSure Envi uses radiofrequency to promote collagen, tighten skin, and stimulate Meibomian glands through soft tissue coagulation. The treatment uses heat to spark your body's natural ability to generate new collagen and stimulate the Meibomian glands.  It is ideally suited to treat ocular surface disease, and to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. The new collagen fibers are tight, dense and neatly organized giving you tighter, younger-looking skin and a healthier ocular surface.

Is TempSure Envi right for me?

TempSure Envi is right for everyone! Treatments are extremely safe and can be performed on all skin types. Unlike other technologies, treatments can be performed all year round! Please discuss with your provider at Happy Valley Vision Source to determine if TempSure Envi is right for you.

What can I expect?

TempSure Envi is a comfortable, safe procedure that doesn’t have any downtime. Patients have reported that it feels similar to a relaxing hot stone massage. After the procedure you might have slight redness, which is caused by your skin’s elevated temperatures during treatment and will subside soon afterwards. You will be able to return to your normal day-to-day activities immediately after the treatment!

How long does the treatment take?

Treating the areas around your eyes only takes approximately 30 min! Because the collagen rebuilding process continues to work days, weeks, even months after your treatment, a series of treatments are required for the best results.

How many treatments are recommended?

3 – 7 treatments are recommended about 4 weeks apart to boost the collagen rebuilding process and to stimulate the Meibomian glands. The amount of treatments is dependent on your OSD severity.
